Some people stand firm.
We make sure that’s never forgotten.

Legacy Forward Collective is a grassroots civic movement commissioning public monuments to the Americans who protect our values, our communities, and our way of life.

About Legacy Forward

Across this country, ordinary citizens are watching history be rewritten. Statues come down and names get changed. The leaders who stood against it are rarely thanked. Legacy Forward Collective began as a conversation between neighbors - veterans, teachers, business owners, and parents - who felt that the leaders defending American tradition deserved more than a news cycle. They deserved permanence.

We are a collective of proud Americans who organize locally, and commission permanent public monuments to the Americans who have stood firm for this country. We work with skilled American sculptors to produce monuments worthy of the honoree and the community that receives them.

Our Inaugural Commission Program

The Steward Series is Legacy Forward Collective's first major undertaking: a series of permanent public sculptures honoring state-level leaders whose tenure reflects what we call durable leadership.

Leadership that refused to be bent to pressure. Leadership that looked at what was worth standing up for and protecting for future generations.

The inaugural Steward Series honoree will be announced in August. The monument was produced in collaboration with our Sculptor in Residence and reviewed by our full Advisory Board.
The Steward Series is ongoing. Nominations for future commissions open to all Legacy Forward Collective members.

Our People

Legacy Forward Collective is governed by an Advisory Board of Americans who have spent their lives in service to their country, their communities, and their faith.

Charles Whitmore - Executive Director

Charles Whitmore spent thirty years in Florida state administration before retiring as Deputy Director of the Florida Office of Civic Heritage in 2019. A Tallahassee native and fourth-generation Floridian, Charles founded Legacy Forward Collective after watching what he describes as "the systematic removal of American memory from public spaces."

Margaret Ann Colby - Chair Advisory Board

Margaret Ann Colby is a retired civic philanthropist and former Chair of the Sarasota County Historical Preservation Society, a position she held for eleven years. The daughter of a citrus farmer and a schoolteacher, Margaret has spent her retirement funding causes she describes as "quietly important." She became a founding donor of Legacy Forward Collective in its first year and joined the Advisory Board shortly after. She handles the Collective's finances with the same directness she brings to everything else.
